FMCSA ELDT Theory for Class A CDL
Complete the required theory topics online, then pass the theory assessment with a score of at least 80% before moving to BTW training.

The compliance details
Know what the online theory step does—and doesn’t do.
Federal ELDT theory has no minimum hour requirement. It is proficiency-based: required curriculum topics must be covered, and the theory assessment requires at least an 80% passing score.
CDLCompliance reports eligible theory completion to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. BTW training remains in person and is provided by a partner school after theory completion. Texas students should verify current TDLR and TWC guidance and state-specific requirements.
